
As of February 2025, Illinois, Maryland and Washington have become the latest states to introduce age restriction bills on weight-loss and muscle-building dietary supplements for consumers under the age of 18.
The total is now up to nine states alongside Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Texas, New Hampshire and Virginia.
On Jan. 30, Maryland Delegate Joe Vogel (D) introduced House Bill 884 to the Maryland House of Delegates, titled “Public Health – Sale of Diet Bills to Minors – Prohibition.” If enacted, the bill would take effect on Oct. 1.
On Jan. 31, Washington Senators John Lovick (D), Manka Dhingra (D) and Marko Liias (D) introduced Senate Bill 5622to the Washington State Senate. The bill would amend the Title 69 Revised Code of Washington (RCW) regulations on food, drugs, cosmetics and poisons.
On Feb. 6, Illinois Representative Janet Yang Rohr (D) introduced House Bill 3027 to the Illinois General Assembly, which would create the “Ban on Harmful Supplements for Minors Act.”
