- Print provides an irreplaceable tactile experience and deeper connection with the audience. Studies show that print holds readers’ attention more than digital, increasing the likelihood that a person not only views the ad but also focuses on its message.
- Unlike digital ads that can be scrolled by or deleted with a click, printed materials engage multiple senses. As noted in one report, “The feel of the paper and the visual appeal of high-quality images and text creates a memorable experience for the reader, fostering a deeper connection with the brand.”
- Print simply has a longer lifespan than digital. While digital ads can often be lost in the constant stream of online content, a printed magazine ad can remain in a person’s office (or store) for weeks, months or even years, serving as a continuous reminder of the brand. This provides the advertiser with ongoing value long after the initial distribution, and therefore a very cost-effective marketing effort with great ROI.
- In one study, 73% of those surveyed said they preferred print advertisements over digital ads because they can read them when they want. Also because successful magazines (like VR ) often have very loyal readership, this helps advertisers gain more customers who are loyal to their brand.
- Print advertising is undeniably more trusted than digital. One study showed that 82% of people trust print advertisements when making purchasing decision, compared to just 39% who said they trusted online banner ads, and only 25% who trusted online pop-up ads. Studies show that printed materials are unquestionably perceived as more legitimate and reliable than digital media.
- Also, print ads in reputable publications (such as VR ) are often perceived by readers as “endorsements” by the publication itself, adding to the credibility of the advertised product.
- Print offers stronger brand recall than digital for advertisers. One study by Temple University showed that physical media such as print leaves a “deeper and longer-lasting impression on the brain” while “creating a multi-sensory experience that enhances memory and recall.”
- Contrary to the misconception that print ads have a more limited reach compared to digital, print ads can be highly targeted, and ads appearing in industry-specific magazines allow marketers to tailor their message to a specific audience (i.e., health food stores). This in turn increases the likelihood of engagement with the reader and results in a higher sales conversion.
- In a recent study, print advertising was shown to have a higher response rate than email, paid search, social media and online display ads combined.
- Social media, pop-up ads and online display ads are often considered to be misleading, and have also become increasingly overwhelming and intrusive, to the point of people becoming very adept at ignoring and/or quickly deleting or closing these digital ads. In one study, 71% of respondents said they believed in the importance of “switching off” their digital devices and reading more in print.
