Paige Parker has always been driven by her personal journey to achieve optimal health, as well as by her strong desire to help others live a healthy lifestyle. This passion for nutrition and wellness led to her career start as a New York City regional manager for Living Well Lady. A go-getter with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, Parker went on to open Mohegan Naturals, a natural food store in Mohegan Lake, NY. Her years of retail experience gave Parker a unique perspective when the opportunity arose to acquire Vibrant Health. Today, Parker, in partnership with her husband, Ted, plays an instrumental role in shaping the vision of the company and ensuring consistent delivery of the highest quality and most effective nutritional supplements in the natural product industry. Parker is a seasoned marketing and business professional and graduated cum laude from Mercy College (New York) with a degree in organizational management.

Question: As a top largest Black-owned business on the Black Enterprise List, as well as a premier natural product brand, Vibrant Health is concerned with nutrition. What nutritional needs in the U.S. are most notable to you? How has COVID-19 impacted that?

Answer: We all suffer from nutrient deficiencies from time to time based on our diet and lifestyle choices. Unfortunately, for some, being able to choose good nutrition is not within our control. We should all be concerned about the lack of access to fresh, wholesome foods in underserved communities—particularly within communities of color. We have well documented evidence regarding the impact of food and health deserts in urban centers. With COVID, we are realizing the consequences of the vicious cycle of poor nutrition and chronic disease.

In September last year, the New England Journal of Medicine reported that poor diet is now the leading underlying cause of death in the United States—surpassing tobacco use. And while the trend in the U.S. is that diets are improving overall, there are still nutritional disparities based on race, ethnicity, education and income levels. And those disparities are getting worse. As a result, Black, Hispanic and Native Americans experience higher rates of obesity and obesity-related inflammatory diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, and those diseases are directly related to more severe COVID-19 impact and worse outcomes within these communities.

Question: You have recently formed an alliance with rapper Styles P. How did this relationship begin, and what are your shared goals?

Answer: We met Styles P and his wife Adjua almost 10 years ago. My husband Ted and I had recently bought Vibrant Health. Styles P owned several juice bars in the Bronx and Brooklyn and later, he and his wife introduced Farmacy for Life, Hip Hop’s first health food store. We knew we shared a common interest in representing the needs of communities of color within the health and wellness space, but at the time we were both hyper-focused on solidifying and growing our respective businesses to explore a partnership.

The impact of COVID-19 combined with the social justice movement that took root over the summer is driving a new level of conversation concerning the disparities that impact Black and brown communities: health, economics, education. Because we share the belief that knowledge is power, the time was right to explore a collaboration.

Together our goal is to help people within these communities to understand the importance of nutrition as a means of breaking the perpetual cycle of chronic illness. We do this by tapping the complementary resources of both organizations. Vibrant Health brings the product innovation and production expertise, and Farmacy for Life is plugged into these communities at a grassroots level.

Question: What is Vibrance and why was it developed?

Answer: Vibrance is an entirely new concept for the supplement industry—an all-natural, plant-based product that delivers foundational daily nutrition support at a cost per serving less than a typical fast-food value menu item. Considering the fact that for many people in underserved communities the value menu is a mealtime go-to, this can only be considered a breakthrough for health and wellness.

Vibrance is an all-natural, plant-based, low-sugar, low-calorie daily supplement that can be mixed with water or blended into a smoothie. Available in Chocolate Coconut or Orange Pineapple, each serving contains 5.5 grams of organic greens and provides 2.5 billion probiotics, prebiotics, antioxidants and adaptogens for only $1.13 per scoop. We source the same exceptional ingredients for Vibrance as all our formulations, including oat grass, barley grass, spinach, broccoli, spirulina, green tea and flaxseed. Our philosophy of full disclosure labeling shows exactly what we are putting in our bottles. We believe every consumer deserves a supplement that works. Vibrance delivers comprehensive nutrition at an exceptional value.

Question: A portion of the sales of Vibrance supports Vitamin Angels. Why did you choose that charity?

Answer: Breaking the cycle of chronic disease in underserved communities requires early intervention among the most vulnerable individuals. We know that supporting healthy pregnancy and early childhood can have profound positive effects that will compound over a lifetime. Healthy women are more likely to have healthy babies. Well-nourished children thrive physically, mentally and emotionally. Vitamin Angels shares that focus and has developed an efficient delivery mechanism to supplement the health and nourishment of pregnant women and children in need.

For every canister of Vibrance sold, our contribution to Vitamin Angels will deliver nutritional supplementation to four pregnant women or children in need. If we want to create widespread and lasting change, that multiplier effect is vital.
