Individuals suffering from chronic pain and inflammation often feel discouraged—and rightly so—by the ongoing stress of their issue. Medications can help as can supplements, herbs, and other more natural approaches. Sometimes though, getting to the root of the inflammation problem is essential. What if the solution, at least in part, was as close as the food in the fridge and cupboards?
Those who aren’t afraid to make big changes may think about adopting a whole foods plant-based diet. Consider the findings in this article via The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine. It explores the link between plant-based eating and rheumatoid arthritis. The article states that in 2015 study randomized participants adopted a plant-based diet for a two-month period. Participants eating the low-fat vegan diet experienced reductions in inflammatory scores compared to those eating a diet higher in fat and animal products.
Another clinical trial showed that plant-based diets helped to reduce RA pain and swelling. After four weeks of this type of eating, individuals with moderate-to-severe RA noted significant improvements in morning stiffness, joint tenderness and swelling along with reduction in RA pain.
Combining a whole-foods, plant-based diet may contribute to a decrease in pain and inflammation, when paired with other therapies and supplements to help promote overall wellness.
