Artificial intelligence has come a long way in a short time, and both retailers and supplement brands alike are incorporating it into their business practices for everything from inventory management to 24/7 customer service automation. However, savvy AI users are now using the technology to generate fake videos of medical professionals promoting wellness supplements.
One AI-generated video in particular includes references to the University of California, Los Angeles health department, with an AI-generated spokeswoman wearing a UCLA Health nametag and promoting a supplement product. UCLA Health told AFP that it doesn’t endorse the product that the account seeks to promote.
Critics of this practice say the AI-generated videos create a false sense of medical authority, helping to build trust in supplements that is then converted into product sales.
