Meditation May Help Relieve Neck Pain

Recently reported by Sciencedaily.com, a recent research report published in The Journal of Pain showed that meditation might be a natural treatment for reducing chronic neck pain from inflammation. Chronic pain, especially in the neck, can lead to serious long-term conditions such as depression. As an alternative to prescription pain medication and anti-inflammatories, meditation is becoming a healthy and safe way to relief chronic pain.

In an eight-week study, German researchers compared the effects of meditation on pain, as well as stress and psychological well-being. The study used 89 patients with chronic neck pain who showed signs of increased perceived stress were randomly assigned into meditation and exercise program groups. At the end of the study, meditation training showed reduced pain and the annoyance of pain when compared to the exercise group. The authors of the report concluded that meditation may help relieve pain and coping with pain.
