Marge Roberts BSN, Mshp, DAHom

Marge Roberts BSN, Mshp, DAHom, President & CEO, Newton Laboratories Inc.

by Janet Poveromo | January 2, 2025

Marge Roberts earned a BS in nursing from the University of Wisconsin (1974) and an MS in Health Professions with an education and administration focus from Southwest Texas State University (1981). She studied classical homeopathy and acupuncture in the U.S. and Sri Lanka, becoming a registered NADA (National Acupuncture Detoxification Association) trainer.

Roberts co-founded and led CAMA (Complementary/Alternative Medical Association) and CAMAction from 1996-2011, advocating for natural medicine at the Georgia State Capitol. Dr. Luc Chaltin (Newton homeopathics founder) served on its board of directors. Roberts collaborated and traveled with the Newton team to promote CAMA’s mission and in 1996 earned a DAHom in clinical homeopathy from the American Academy of Clinical Homeopathy (AACH).

In 2008, Roberts became the sole owner of Newton and AACH.

Question: Please discuss Newton’s history and background.

Answer: Newton Laboratories, an FDA (U.S. Food and Drug Administration)-registered homeopathic manufacturer established in 1987, is in Conyers, GA with its foundation built upon the expertise of Dr. Luc Chaltin, a Belgian-born homeopath of nearly 50 years. While still living in Belgium and after healing himself of tuberculosis in the 1960s, utilizing homeopathy and an organic diet, Chaltin switched from being an engineer to a homeopath. Through his own healing and the treating of thousands of patients in Europe, he developed his clinical approach to homeopathy.

He moved to the United States in 1982, a desire of his ever since the United States and Canada liberated Belgium during World War II. In 1987, he became a permanent resident and later that year incorporated Newton homeopathics. In 1992, he became a naturalized citizen, and he was 64 years old when he started Newton.

Question: You are a RN and now serve as Newton’s CEO/president. Please explain your start with the company and what led up to your current position.

Answer: In 1996, my husband and I started a non-profit educational organization, CAMA (Complementary-Alternative Medical Association), which focused on natural medicine therapies such as acupuncture, chiropractic, massage and ayurveda. Dr. Chaltin served on our board of directors representing homeopathy. During our board work together, I became a student of homeopathy and often traveled with the Newton leadership team to various expos and trade shows. In 2004, when Dr. Chaltin entered his 80s he asked if I would accept the position of CEO/President of Newton. I took an early retirement after 30 years of nursing to accept the position. Upon his passing in 2008, he had arranged for me to become the owner of Newton.

Question: Newton homeopathics’ focus is on quality. Please describe how the company achieves that goal.

Answer: Because of Dr. Chaltin’s commitment to quality, Newton uses certified organic, non-GMO (genetically modified organism), gluten-free alcohol as a preservative; our pellets are certified organic, non-GMO, and lactose-free. We package in recyclable glass instead of plastic and hand-succuss in small batches. We like to say, “We were green when green was just a color; now it’s a marketing tool.”

Although not mandatory for a homeopathic manufacturer, Newton homeopathics are manufactured in a class 100,000 clean room.

Question: As a U.S. Army veteran, please describe your service.

Answer: While I was in nursing school, the U.S. Army was recruiting nurses during the Vietnam war. There was a program at the time to offer financial assistance to students in return for a commitment to serve. My brother had already served and came home safely; I needed financial assistance, and I thought it would be great to travel the world after I returned from Vietnam. So, young and foolish, I signed up. It turned out to be a great decision. Fortunately, the war ended before I graduated so I never served in combat. After leaving the army, I was able to obtain my master’s degree using the GI Bill and worked as a nurse in various veteran administration hospital systems in Arizona, Texas and Georgia.

Question: As a woman CEO how does your perspective on health and business leadership affect the company?

Answer: I did not advertise as a woman/veteran-owned company for the first 10 years of my ownership because I wanted people to buy our products and respect our company because we are the best, not because of some identity—I view it as divisive.

I believe my nursing background has been invaluable in managing this business. As a nurse, one deals with all types of personalities and must navigate all emotions—fear, anger, sadness. It provided me with the experience to mentor all levels of employees, communicate with challenging customers, explore evasive solutions and tolerate (to some degree) the non-sensical regulations of the business world.

A traditional nursing background also gives me the knowledge to serve as a bridge between the allopathic approach and the natural approach to healing.

Question: What is next for Newton Homeopathics?

Answer: We’re committed to helping more people discover the benefits of Newton homeopathics. By increasing our advertising and social media presence, we’ll reach a wider audience, educating as many as possible about the clinical homeopathy approach and homeopathy, in general.

Newton’s sister organization, the American Academy of Clinical Homeopathy, hosts two educational websites, AACHweb.com and AACHomeopathy.com. I host monthly live education sessions through Zoom and publish “Minutes with Marge” education tips on YouTube, Instagram and Facebook each Monday.
