Charlotte’s Web in Search for More Data to Fully Comply with FDA

by Nicholas Saraceno | June 23, 2020

According to Facts About CBD, Colorado-based Charlotte’s Web Holdings Inc. announced its partnership with six other CBD brands to sponsor a ValidCare scientific study to comply with FDA’s (U.S. Food and Drug Administration) request for more scientific data. The study will be conducted on humans and will seek to determine whether daily consumption of CBD isolate or hemp-derived CBD affects the liver. The request was made by the FDA when it appeared before Congress on March 5, 2020. Charlotte’s Web is the largest producer of vertically integrated hemp-derived CBD products, as noted by the article.

In a statement, Charlotte’s Web’s CEO, Deanie Elsner, said the move to sponsor a ValidCare study is in line with the company’s agenda to maintain its position as a market leader anchored in science. He added that the result of the study will not only be beneficial to its own operation, but also to the entire industry. The company will be part of six others that responded to a call to participate and fund the study. More than 100 companies were invited to take part in the study.

Tim Orr, vice president of innovation for Charlotte’s Web, noted that the additional study will also add more knowledge on the science behind hemp-driven CBD products and their consumption.
