Protein-rich foods, amino acids, manganese-rich foods, and foods rich in vitamins E and D are best for adrenal and thyroid health, according to a recent article in Trinidad and Tobago Newsday, by Germaine Williams Beckles, a doctor of trichology and a nutrition consultant.
Lean beef, poultry, fish, nuts, soy and eggs are sources of protein beneficial to thyroid and amino health.
In order for these glands to function, foods rich in manganese are also necessary. The best sources are organ meats and legumes; mainly because they contain heam iron, which facilitates proper and faster absorption of manganese. Other good sources of iron are green leafy vegetables and whole grains.
Vitamin E protects pituitary, thyroid, and adrenal glands from harmful free radicals obtained, easily, from UV rays and air pollutants. Vitamin D keeps the integrity of these glands and promotes their ability to secrete hormones. Best sources of vitamin E come from almond and plant oils. Vitamin D comes from dairy products and fatty fish, such as tuna and salmon.
