As 2024 comes to an end, Vitamin Retailer (VR) once again rounded up its top 10 stories of the year.

While the top items feature a mix of topics, several stories covered the industry’s responses to serious allegations.

 Two of the top headlines were written by James Gormley, a former VR editor/writer who died on Aug. 14, 2024 at age 61. His features on blood sugar and metabolic health, and a special feature for Vitamin Retailer‘s  30th Anniversary issue in January were among the most read articles of the year.

Other headlines include new research on garlic, a supplement company rebrand and VRM Media’s partnership with SENPA.

BMC Medicine retracted a 2013 study which used DNA barcoding analysis to test 44 herbal products after an investigation by the University of Guelph found evidence of “data fabrication.” The industry responded to the retraction.
