Threshold’s new 5,700 square-foot Science and Innovation Center building in Scott’s Valley, CA became fully operational in October. The new space includes its relocated laboratory operation and an expansion of Threshold’s state-of-the-art laboratory, plus additional office workspace for the quality control and quality assurance personnel.

While third-party lab testing plays an important role in the quality control of Threshold’s products, rapid innovation and increased operational volume exceeded internal lab capacity and capability, the company stated. For years, these constraints required Threshold to outsource more than it would prefer.

When Director of Quality Kevin Charries came on board in 2010, Threshold had already been seeking a solution to its lab constraints problems for years. Despite extensive searches, a suitable space was not found until earlier this year when a local manufacturer vacated its facility near the Threshold campus.

“We are fortunate to find a space within walking distance. Especially one that needed so little modification and renovation to get up and running,” said Charries.

Threshold spent roughly $1 million on the new Science & Innovation Center building, including $500,000 in new, additional laboratory instrumentation, an investment that has significantly boosted Threshold’s capabilities.

“The plan is to eventually perform 100 percent of our testing here in our laboratory. Although we partner with capable and respected third-party laboratories, we prefer to perform our testing in-house. The company has recognized it as a goal for many years and is following through on the investment to achieve it,” added Charries.
