Twenty Years of Omega-3 Excellence

The inspiration for Nordic Naturals began when Norwegian-born Joar Opheim came to the U.S. in the 1980s to complete his MBA, and couldn’t find high-quality fish oil. As a gymnast, Opheim relied on omega-3s to manage inflammation, and when he couldn’t find it, he resorted to bringing his own fish oil from Norway—filling his suitcase with bottles on trips back and forth. From this experience, Opheim’s personal mission was born: Improve the quality of American fish oil and increase global access to the profound health benefits of high-quality omega-3s.

In line with this fundamental goal, Nordic Naturals is responsible for several patented fish-oil technologies that have helped shape standards for an industry that had few guidelines in place. Today, Nordic Naturals offers one of the largest portfolios of omega-3 fish-oil products in the world, including a wide variety of concentrations, nutrient blends and delivery forms that meet each customer’s personal nutritional needs. They also offer several complementary essential nutrients (vitamins C and D, probiotics and CoQ10 ubiquinol) that pair well with the health benefits of omega-3s.
The key to Nordic Naturals’ industry-leading quality is their boat-to-bottle management of every step of the manufacturing process. Products begin at Nordic Pharma, their state-of-the-art, green manufacturing plant in Arctic Norway, and one of the most advanced processing plants in the omega-3 industry. Built to pharmaceutical-grade standards, Nordic Pharma’s leading technology allows the use of 20 to 30 percent less raw material to achieve desired omega-3 EPA/DHA levels. Not only is the fish oil more efficiently used, short-chain fatty acids, which are separated from long-chain omega-3s during processing, become an incredibly clean and pure source of fuel that is used to meet 100 percent of the plant’s manufacturing process energy needs.
Research-Backed Quality & Sustainable Fishing
Every batch of Nordic Naturals products is tested by a third-party-certified lab to verify purity and freshness levels, and the company offers customers Certificates of Analysis which document the superior quality of its products. Consider the results of a recent clinical study comparing Ultimate Omega, Nordic Naturals’ top-selling omega-3 concentrate, to three other leading omega-3 products. Results showed that Ultimate Omega provided decidedly better absorption of omega-3s into the body—up to 382 percent better.1
