The campaign titled "Identifying The Elephant in the Room: Critical Communications Strategies in the Face of Racism," by INICIVOX and Pitch Publicity, has won the 2020 award for best Diversity & Inclusion Campaign given by PR News during its Social Impact Summit CSR Diversity Awards.
This seminar series was inspired by #BlackOutTuesday, according to Amy Summers, founder & president of Pitch Publicity and INICIVOX, who has 20 years experience in the natural health industry. Summers said the companies' staff decided to turn the day of reflection into a professional seminar series. Student groups at Howard University and the University of Florida, Summers' alma mater, were chosen to host the series designed to mentor students interested in entering careers within the communications industry, while preparing them for impactful work to address the long-standing "elephant in the room" when it comes to racism. Six virtual panels took place during the fall of 2020, and more than 540 attendees participated.
