The Natural Products Association (NPA) mobilized its grassroots network in recent days, sending over 10,000 letters to elected officials across the country requesting that health food stores remain open as essential businesses during the COVID-19 public health crisis. Thousands of health food stores have remained open based on guidance from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and President Trump’s declaration that workers in critical infrastructure have a “special responsibility” to continue working. Health food stores provide a wide range of essential products, including, water, electrolytes, nutritional supplements, healthy food options and other health-related products, such as hand sanitizer.

“Our businesses are going to stay open to serve local communities during this difficult time,” said Daniel Fabricant, PhD, president and CEO of NPA. “We thank our members for their hard work, and we will continue to provide regular updates about how we can work with policymakers as the country responds to the COVID-19 public health crisis.”
