Gerald Kessler, a natural products industry leader and founder of Nature’s Plus and Natural Organics, Inc., passed away recently at the age of 80. His funeral service took place on March 25 at Loper Funeral Chapel in Solvang, CA. Kessler, who was known as an industry innovator, also helped shape and pass the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act (DSHEA) in 1994.

After graduating from New York University (NYU), he spent 14 years as a sales representative for various pharmaceutical companies, where he learned about the benefits of vitamins and supplements, which gave him the idea for Nature’s Plus. Over the course of 40 years, he developed more than 1,000 Nature’s Plus products and was a champion for the industry. More recently, he founded a movie studio, GruntWorks Entertainment, and went on at produce, direct and act in several feature films.

His family and friends issued a statement describing him as a “giant of a man in stature, heart and soul,” who dedicated his entire life to continually supporting the wellness of millions of consumers worldwide.
