At the request of state leaders, Nourish America (Morro Bay, CA) launched its “healthy” relief effort to get nutritious foods and essential supplies directly into the hands of victims of April’s tornados and storms, which laid a path of destruction across six Southeastern states, killing more than 35 people and injuring scores of others.
Extensive damage was reported in Little Rock, AK, Tupelo, MS, and coastal regions in Alabama. To help support the relief effort, Nourish America is asking for cash and product donations from the natural products industry.
Most foods and supplements of the natural products industry are nutrient-dense, shelf-stable, pocket-sized and great tasting. In addition, body care and cleaning supplies are non-toxic. These qualities make natural products excellent and useful relief support items for victims dealing with the trauma of loss and the challenges of rebuilding a life.
Nourish America has partnered with state leaders and emergency workers to assure that its relief items are received and well-used by disaster victims and emergency workers. These partners include the Honorable Asa Hutchison, former undersecretary of Homeland Security and Arkansas gubernatorial candidate; Alabama State Sen. Linda Coleman; Robin Read, former CEO and president of the National Foundation for Women’s Legislators; and other community leaders.
Monetary donations, bottled water, protein and meal replacement bars, drinks and powders, energy drinks, shelf-stable dairy products, shelf stable prepared foods and canned goods are requested.
Also needed are ready-to-eat cereals and snacks, shelf-stable juice, shelf-stable baby food, multivitamins for children, adults and seniors, other supportive nutritional supplements, cleaning solutions, hand sanitation products, body and skin care products, diapers, toothpaste, toothbrushes, flashlights, batteries, tampons and sanitary napkins.
