Further Chia Powder Brands Recalled Due to Salmonella

Further Chia Powder Brands Recalled Due to Salmonella

by Angela Santoriello | June 23, 2014

Since Navitas Naturals (Navato, CA) recalled two of its products containing chia powder earlier this month due to suspected Salmonella, other manufacturers have also stopped selling it with as many as 65 cases of salmonella having been reported in the U.S. and Canada, according to a Food Safety News report.

The latest recall comes from GreenSmoothieGirl, the online manufacturer of Sprouted Ground TriOmega Superfood products that contain organic sprouted chia powder. Food Safety News reports the powder was distributed in Utah, Oregon and Montana, and to other states nationwide via the company’s website.

Thus far 21 people in the U.S. and 44 in Canada have reported being infected with Salmonella Newport or Salmonella Hartford.
