AHPA Appoints Chair of Sports Nutrition Committee

by Corinne Anderson | April 19, 2016

The American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) appointed Dr. Robert Wildman, chief science officer at Post Active Nutrition Brands (Fort Worth, TX), as the new chair of the Sports Nutrition Committee during a meeting at Natural Products Expo West in Anaheim, CA, in March. Wildman succeeds Ray Jaglowski, vice president of technical and regulatory at Twinlab Corp., who chaired the committee for the past two years.

“AHPA’s members have greatly appreciated Ray’s leadership and contributions to the sports nutrition industry and to AHPA over the past years,” said AHPA President Michael McGuffin. “We are looking forward to working with Rob and thank him for his willingness to assume leadership of the committee. We expect AHPA and the sports nutrition industry to benefit from his extensive experience.”

Wildman is the author of four books including Sports & Fitness Nutrition and The Nutritionist: Food, Nutrition & Optimal Health. He has also written more than 75 referred journal articles, chapters and abstracts on nutrition, performance and health aspects. He is the creator of TheNutritionDr.com.

“The regulated sports supplement industry is rapidly growing and evolving, creating exciting, new opportunities and challenges,” Wildman said. “I look forward to working with AHPA and its sports nutrition members to help ensure the responsible commerce of sports supplement products and meet consumer demand for high-quality products.”

Wildman is also an advisory board member and fellow of the International Society of Sports Nutrition (ISSN) and a member of the Academy of Nutrition & Dietetics (AND) and the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is a registered and licensed dietitian and has worked with hundreds of athletes at every level and serves as adjunct research faculty in the Department of Human Nutrition at Kansas State University.

AHPA’s Sports Nutrition Committee is comprised of more than 30 companies and was chartered in 2010 to promote the responsible commerce of products marketed for sports nutrition. Under Jaglowski’s leadership, the committee developed a guidance policy adopted by AHPA in 2014 for the labeling of protein in food and dietary supplements.
