Joint Health … Real Results!

There are about 360 joints in the human body. With so many moving parts, it’s no wonder that 75 million Americans deal with arthritis and joint disease. Forty-two percent of adults 45 to 64 years of age and half of adults 65 and older experience joint pain, but joint pain isn’t isolated to Baby Boomers and seniors. In the 2009 CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) National Health Interview Survey, one in five adults between the ages of 18 and 44 reported experiencing joint pain within the past 30 days. Musculoskeletal diseases are the most common health issue in the United States.

The complexity of the joint structure can range from the simplistic synovial joint of the finger to the largest joint in the body—the knee joint. Regardless of whether it’s a finger, an elbow or a knee, these body parts are vulnerable to the effects of wear and tear. Over time, the cartilage that cushions joints becomes stiff and loses its fluidity or natural flexibility. Eventually, the cartilage can breakdown and wear away, causing the bones to rub directly together, which our bodies naturally react to with inflammation. This friction can create substantial pain, making normal activities more difficult. New discoveries in the natural approach to joint health can help combat this friction by providing the body with the nutrients the joints need to remain healthy and botanicals to support healthy inflammation management.

NEM is a joint health ingredient derived from the membrane, or the inner lining, of eggshells. That membrane contains naturally occurring glycosaminoglycans, such as chondroitin, collagen, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid and other proteins and amino acids essential to the joint tissue. All of these nutrients are packed in that eggshell membrane, which makes NEM a whole, food-based ingredient, unlike glucosamine, which is an isolated, highly concentrated ingredient normally derived from shellfish. Multiple human clinical trials have shown NEM’s effectiveness for joint health. Not only have these studies proved effectiveness, they have also shown that NEM provides relief quickly. Open label trials of NEM showed that a single 500 mg dose decreased pain by 25 percent in as little as seven days and increased flexibility by 44 percent; by trial’s end, NEM decreased pain associated with joint range of motion by 76 percent.1 A double-blind placebo controlled trial verified the effectiveness of NEM for joint health. With the same once daily, 500 mg dose of NEM, an average 31 percent reduction in stiffness was demonstrated in the treatment group in just 10 days; furthermore, one-third of the patients experienced a greater than 50 percent reduction in pain by trial’s end.2 Overall, the study demonstrated an increase for individuals in joint comfort, flexibility and range of motion.3 Studies on NEM have also shown that this complex of naturally occurring glycosaminoglycans reduces both early-phase and late-phase pro-inflammatory cytokines, the chemical messengers responsible for inflammation.4

In the world of over-the-counter and prescription drugs for osteoarthritis comes unwanted side effects such as a higher risk of gastrointestinal issues and even cardiovascular issues. This is not the case with NEM Natural Eggshell Membrane. Only NEM has an established safety record. In all of the human studies, no serious adverse events were reported. NEM has even been studied at 50 times the clinically effective dose with no toxicity demonstrated. The proven efficacy of NEM for joint health and function, paired with its established safety record establish this unique ingredient as a viable option for those individuals looking to protect and establish healthy, moving joints.
