Solar Powered Bakery Celebrates 35 Years of Business

Solar Powered Bakery Celebrates 35 Years of Business

by Angela Santoriello | August 13, 2014

The Sonoma County co-op members and fellow entrepreneurs at Alvarado Street Bakery are celebrating their 35th year as a leader in producing healthy, organic, whole grain breads, according to the Petaluma, CA company.

“Our team produces and distributes over 30 organic baked goods. Our solar-powered bakery enables us to produce our sprouted wheat breads with nearly half of the electrical power coming from the sun. Our customers can even visit our website and check out our daily solar stats,” said Michael Girkout, president and member of Alvarado Street Bakery.

According to the Whole Grains Council, sprouted grains are also easier to digest compared to other whole grains, while the sprouting process increases the bioavailability of some vitamins and minerals.

“We’re the types who pick up a food package and study the nutritional panel and ingredient lists. We want people to feel comfortable understanding what they eat and then to feel confident in the products they’re choosing for their families,” said Girkout.” There are so many products out there with weird and unrecognizable additives. We’re committed to producing delicious healthful breads that use natural, real, honest ingredients.”
