Providing the Promise of Krill Phospholipid Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Required for Optimal Health
Until recently, cognitive health, heart health and normal metabolic function were assumed to be non-related. Now, we know there is one factor that they may have in common: a deficiency in essential fatty acids (EFAs), particularly EPA and DHA—two forms of omega-3 fatty acids, which are important for developing and maintaining cellular health.

Krill is a new source of these essential fatty acids. Krill supplements are unique as they provide EPA and DHA bound to phospholipids—the most bio-efficient form of omega-3s—resulting in better utilization by the body. As a result, a smaller, easier-to-swallow capsule may be used. Plus, krill phospholipids are free from repeating and marine odor (no fish burps!). Finally, krill is an abundant, sustainable source.

About Superba Krill
Superba Krill™ is a pure, natural source of the health-promoting EPA and DHA omega-3 EFAs, and the naturally occurring antioxidant astaxanthin. Increased transport to and utilization of omega-3 by various tissues has been demonstrated when delivered as omega-3 phospholipids. For example, elevated concentrations of omega-3 in target organs, such as the brain and heart, are observed when delivered as omega-3 phospholipids compared to other sources.

Krill is an abundant resource that occupies a relatively low, yet vital position in the marine food chain. Antarctic krill feed primarily on phytoplankton (tiny sea plants). This position on the food chain becomes an important issue as ocean waters become increasingly subject to contamination. Krill, for example, are not subject to the same mercury contamination that many fish species (and hence fish oils) are. Several other environmental pollutants are extremely low in krill, due to the clean waters in which they live.

Benefits Beyond Nutrition Alone
• Smaller dose provides better compliance (easy to swallow)
• Free of digestive discomfort and repeating (no fishy burps!)
• Eco-Harvesting™ is environmentally friendly and sustainable
• Superba Krill is 100 percent traceable from sea to shelf, ensuring quality
• Naturally pure, from the cleanest waters on Earth

About Aker BioMarine Antarctic US (AKBM)
AKBM is a vertically integrated biotechnology company dedicated to sustainability and uniquely positioned to create krill-derived biotech products.

The company is the only krill ingredient marketer that is primary in its supply, providing 100 percent traceability from its harvesting vessel in the pristine Antarctic Ocean through the proprietary manufacture of its krill ingredients. This novel extraction process results in the unique composition of Superba Krill. In vitro, in vivo and human clinical research has demonstrated the safety and efficacy of Superba Krill. Moreover, a dynamic research and development team continues to unlock and substantiate krill’s health benefits.

AKBM has developed a gentle, environmentally responsible way to harvest krill, called Aker Eco-Harvesting. Using a submerged net, the krill remain in the sea during harvesting and are then gently siphoned onboard. Immediate processing inside the ships’ advanced production facilities results in the freshest, highest-quality end products. Eco-Harvesting’s trawl module effectively prevents accidental bi-catches of fish, birds and marine mammals.

Absolute vertical integration and control in harvesting and manufacturing from sea to shelf—that is the promise of Superba Krill. AKBM is the only krill harvester that has been awarded Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) Certification. It is also a proud member of GOED.
